Who is Henry the Hand?
Henry the Hand, “Champion Handwasher”, was created by Dr. Will Sawyer MD, with one goal in mind:
“To improve health by making us more aware of the role our hands play in the spread of disease.”
We are a grass-roots, non-profit organization making an effort to stop infectious disease before it starts by using true primary disease prevention. The most common way to contract an illness is by putting your finger into your eye, nose, or mouth (the “T-Zone”), yet not ONE agency or health program has been getting this important message across. If the world were simply more hand aware, just a few simple precautions could prevent disease epidemics (and pandemics)! In an effort to get back to basics and “spread the word, not the germs”, we have created the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness:
1) WASH your hands when they are dirty and BEFORE eating
2) DO NOT cough into your hands
3) DO NOT sneeze into your hands
4) Above all, do NOT put your fingers in your eyes, nose, or mouth!
The purpose of our blog is to reach out to other like-minded people and organizations across the globe in the hopes of further promoting and circulating the 4 Principles of Hand Awareness. Stay tuned for articles, discussions, and tips relating to true primary infection prevention. We will cover topics of school health, patient safety (health care facilities), food safety, work place facilities, international issues, and many more! You can find the blog posts that apply to you through the “Categories” menu. Together, we can help build a healthier world!
Our website, www.henrythehand.com, has a wealth of resources. They include a free report “Protect Your Home: Top 7 Infection Prevention Tips for Your Home”, free printable posters, the Infection Prevention eNews subscription, and Infection Prevention Tool Kits that contain everything you need to run a successful Hand Awareness program in your home, school, health care facility, food service facility, work place, or on an international trip. Come check us out, just for the health of it!
Thank you for your interest!
